NEW YORK — International Emmy nominated actor Zanjoe Marudo arrived in New York on Tuesday night to attend the most awaited awards night of his career.
The kapamilya star has been nominated for his portrayal of a father going through a mental health disorder, in the “Anino” episode of ABS-CBN’s drama anthology MMK.
MMK is hosted by award-winning actress and ABS-CBN’s chief content officer Charo Santos-Concio — a former gala chair for the iEmmy awards in 2015.
The model-turned-actor is among the nominees for best performance by an actor – competing against top male actors from Brazil, France, and the United Kingdom’s Kenneth Branagh – Oscar-nominated actor.
“Malaking bagay yun, isa yun sa magiging highlight ng career ko, ilang taon pa rin naman ako nagsimula so, maroon na agad ganun kalaking blessing na dumating sa akin bilang artisa,” said Marudo.
Marudo says he was glad he did not turn down the role because he was swamped with work at the time it was offered.
“Kahit hindi enough yung time para mag prepare, tinanggap ko yung role, kasi gusto ko yung ganung challenging roles… para din maintindihan ng tao yung pinagdadaanan ng tao an may ganung mental disorder,” he said.
Victor, Marudo’s character, is going through a mental disorder known as paranoid schizophrenia.
“May posibilidad na meron siyang schizophrenia, maaari pong makaranas ng hallucinations, or delusions ang pasyente, pinaka common yung nakakrinig siya ng boses, nakakaita siya ng bagay na hindi totoo, talon!”
“Mahirap siya, actually mahirap, emotionally draining, physically tiring siya nakakapagod, pero sobra akong nag enjoy habang ginagawa ko yun,” he said.
His hard work paid off — Marudo will forever be known as an international Emmy nominated actor, and perhaps a winner come Monday’s awards.
“Nakakatuwa na after isang taon di ba, mare-recognize pala dito yung ginawa kong trabaho so sobrang thankful ako and yun sana sana, para sa pinas, para sa pilipino may mangyaring maganda.”
Winners will be announced at the 45th International Emmy Awards black-tie gala in New York City on Monday.
