X Factor finalist Ellona Santiago: ‘I was lucky to have Filipino support’

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Week after week, throughout the entire season of the hit TV singing competition X Factor, FilAm singer Ellona Santiago wowed the judges with explosive performances.

The 17-year-old finalist from San Lorenzo, Calif. was a favorite to win the show, consistently getting praises from her coach Demi
Lovato and judges Simon Cowell, Kelly Rowland, and Paulina Rubio.

But last week Santiago’s streak was cut short. After making it to the top six the show’s TV audience voted her off.

The announcement was a shock to her, her fans, and to the judges who rooted for her along the way.

“I was definitely shocked,” Santiago said during an interview at Balitang America’s studio. “I was very speechless.”

Santiago said she gave her stint on X Factor her best, giving 100 percent during each performance.

“I’m so lucky to have Filipino support to back me up all the way,” she said. “It’s an amazing support system to have.”

Life will go on after X Factor, Santiago said. She hopes graduate from high school and continue working in music.

“I’m still going to keep going, I’m still going to work hard, and possibly make music,” she said.
