Why Pacquiao changed his jogging route

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – With fight night only 40 days away, there is an on-going effort to keep Filipino ring icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao safe and focused as he trains for his May 2 showdown against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

One place – a secluded oval track – not only provides a different type of workout, but also gives Pacquiao’s some privacy.

Some celebrities still managed to join the “Pacman,” including musician Apl.de.ap and the world’s fastest woman, Olympic gold medalist Carmelita Jeter.

“Maganda doon, kasi ‘yung steps ina-akyatan and ‘yung oval,” said Pacquiao.

The Filipino boxer’s morning jogs have become massive public workouts, and it’s a habit that chief trainer Freddie Roach wants to break with new routines in new places.

“It’s a great place, because we have to have privacy,” said Roach. “We need somewhere new we can go. The thing is, he has to be ready for a fight, so (the public) have to respect that.”

“Marami pa ring tao. Marami pa ring tao doon,” said Pacquiao. “Ayos na naka-focus at maganda run sa legs. ‘Yung speed mo makukuha.”

There was also an effort to make the Wild Card Gym more private as Roach said they are installing new windows.

“People are sticking their cameras up there, and I’m covering it with new windows, yeah,” he explained.

Pacquiao found some peace and quiet while training, but could not avoid the crowds as he left the gym.

Team Pacquiao is now urging people to leave the champion alone as fight night draws closer and closer.

On Tuesday fans continued to flock to the Pacman during his Pan Pacific Park workout. Pacquiao was joined by his sparring partners whom he trained with in the gym on Tuesday afternoon.
