Virginia Beach Pinoys attempt record breaking tinikling dance performance

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Fil-am students and community groups joined forces in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest number of participants dancing the tinikling simultaneously.

A total of 358 dancers, ages 6 to 60, assembled last Saturday at a Filipino American History Month celebration in Virginia Beach.

Organizers say the dancers practiced for six weeks for their shot at breaking the current record of 344 tinikling dancers, set in Dallas, Texas last year.

The Virginia Beach dancers are still waiting for officials at Guinness to announce the new record.

Seventeen (17) community organizations, comprised of Virginia high school and college students (Filipino American dance troupes from Washington DC, Richmond, VA and Virginia Beach, VA), from ages 6 to over 60, practiced for 6 weeks to establish a new world record in the number of participants performing Tinikling simultaneouly. The current Guinness world record was 344 established in Dallas, TX in 2014. On October 24, 2015, #FilFest2015 #FilFestTownCenter, an event celebrating Filipino American history month, held in Virginia Beach, Virginia, a new record was achieved with 358 participants. That’s three hundred fifty eight! Congratulations to the Filipino American communities of Virginia on a new world record. Thank you Julius Legara for the recording and upload, and special thanks to all for your participation and support.
