REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The Vatican’s council of bishops released a report emphasizing calls for greater acceptance of gays, divorced and remarried Catholics, and couples living-in.
Cardinal Peter Erdo of Budapest told Pope Francis and the council that homosexuals have gifts to offer the Christian community.
As for living-in arrangements or co-habitating couples, Erdo said authentic family values can be drawn from such relationships.
Erdo also called for more respect for divorced or civilly re-married Catholics.
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila said Erdo’s speech is a pre-text for further discussions which will conclude on Oct. 18.
