Valentine’s Day in Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV — Las Vegas is the wedding capital of the world. Here, Vegas weddings are synonymous with romance, and Valentine’s Day is one of the most popular days to tie the knot.

“It’s not busy as New Year’s Eve,” said Pinay Marfi Isip. “Most people actually come here because they can just let go of whatever…for some reason here in Nevada, in Vegas, people just don’t care about what they do. They just want to have fun.”

“They think Vegas is the best for weddings,” said Mary Austin.

Las Vegas issues 120,000 marriage licenses each year.

A few benefits of getting married in Sin City is that no blood test is required, and there is no waiting period.

Jab Buhay, a Fil-Am wedding photographer in Vegas, says that Valentine’s Day is one of his busiest times of the year.

“I have 5 weddings to shoot for Valentines day, so that’s 5 different couples from different parts of the world,” Buhay said.

Pinay florist Marina Welch of the Plaza Royale wedding chapel has been busy since Saturday arranging bouquets of flowers for clients and hotel guests.

“A lot of people like to buy flowers for their family,” she said. “It’s not just for the girlfriend or boyfriend or husband and wife.”

Valentine’s Day fun can also be found off the Vegas path.

25 minutes away from the Strip, in Henderson, the Lights of Love features over half a million of red pink and white lights to celebrate the love-filled holiday.

A chocolate factory in Vegas kept its doors opened late to accommodate the last-minute crowds buying sweets for their loved ones.

People of all ages take a stroll through this cactus garden covered with lights representing the colors of love.

“It’s a very nice garden,” said Manny Baltazar. “It reflects how people love the community, and love one another…because it emphasizes Valentine’s, with all the attractions of the colors.”

Although Valentines Day does not fall on a weekend this year, las vegas is still the most popular destination for this holiday dedicated to love.
