MANILA – Dozens of activists rallied outside the US Embassy in Manila to protest US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel’s visit to the Philippines. Hagel’s visit comes at a time when the two allies continue its negotiation regarding US presence in the Philippines in the face of territorial disputes with China.

Philippine Defense Undersecretary Pio Lorenzo Batino says the proposed framework agreement under negotiation will not only bolster the country’s external defense, but it would also help improve disaster response and increase joint military training exercises.

Activist say the expanded US presence would only further heighten tensions in the region.

ComeOn , the dozens of activists rallied outside the US Embassy in Manila to protest US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel’s vist to the philippines ! Be careful what they say because for us Americans back here in America we don’t really care about what happens between your country and china ! You have your own Philippines Defense ? Why we have to spend money in your country to help your disaster and increase joint military training exercises ?

Jorge…. If you aren’t an expert on international relations and politics, please stop commenting dahil nagmumukha kayong tanga. Many countries spend money and donate to other countries especially on the events of natural disasters and threats such as invasion from other countries. Also, America whether you like it or not have vested interests in the Philippines and around the world. It has the position as the international police.
