REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Thursday Aug. 21 marks the 31st death anniversary of former Philippine Sen. Benigno Ninoy Aquino Jr. whose assassination led to the downfall of the Marcos dictatorship through the people power revolution.
On Wednesday night members of the Aquino family, Philippine government officials, and various members of the community gathered at the Philippine consulate in San Francisco to remember a hero of democracy.
Among those present during the event were Ninoy’s sister Lupita Kashiwahara and her husband Ken, Consul General Henry Bensurto, and Ambassador Manuel Lopez, chairman of the Lopez Group.
A mass was held in honor of Ninoy followed by performances from the singing priests of Tagbilaran.
