Typhoon Lando weakens, at least 18 killed

MANILA – Typhoon Lando is weakening but weather forecasters in the Philippines urged the public not to be complacent.

As of late Tuesday evening, Philippine time, officials say moderate to heavy rainfall is still expected as Typhoon Lando heads towards Calayan ang Babuyan Islands.

The Aquino government is reaching out to families affected by Typhoon Lando.

Officials say the typhoon has hit more than 121,000 families, equivalent to some 560,00 individuals.

Close to 24,000 families are being housed in evacuation centers.

According to the NDRRMC, at least 18 people have died during the storm.

The cost of damage to agriculture is estimated at $108 million.
