REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Two Filipinos were killed after their van was hit by a drunk 21-year-old in Wisconsin on Saturday morning.
Wisconsin prosecutors say that Michael Sonnentag fled the scene after rear ending a van with eight people, killing two and injuring others last Saturday.
Larci Ricafrente, 28, of Waterford, Michigan and Djamella Sugatan, 28, from the Philippines were pronounced dead at the scene.
They were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the van.
Six other Filipinos were taken to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries and were released.
The driver was Alvin Dimaranana of Schiller Park, Illinois.
Five passengers, Leah and Luisito Ricafrente, Lison and Athan Dimaranan, and Jovita Dela Cruz Alegre, all sustained injuries.
Sonnentag is now being held at the Dunn County Jail, and faces two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.
A cash bond was set at $50,000 dollars.
