Two Filipino youths drown at Winnipeg lake

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – A Filipino community in Canada is in mourning after David Medina, 12, and Jhonalyn Javier, 11, drowned at Grand Beach in Winnipeg on Monday.

Police say the children’s parents lost track of them as night time set in.

Witnesses reported seeing people search for the two missing children.

Beach safety officers recovered their bodies from the lake, attempting to give them CPR, but revival efforts failed.

Medina and his family migrated to Canada in 2014 from Dasmarinas, Cavite. Javier and her family arrived in Canada in 2015 from Angeles City, Pampanga.
