Trump supporters laugh off impeachment probe as they hold comedy show fundraiser

LONG BEACH — As the impeachment Inquiry into President Donald Trump intensifies, his supporters are taking things in stride — even finding some humor amid Trump’s troubles.
“As you can see, they’re not really caring much about this impeachment, bottom line is, there’s no substance to it. So we’re just moving along, focusing on 2020 and getting him reelected and having fun while we’re doing it,” said Rachel Gunther, 2016 LA County Chair for Trump.
These Southern California Republicans held their second Make America Laugh Again fundraiser, featuring conservative comics and local Republican candidates.
“We’re just having fun, we Trumpers are not boring and old fashioned like everybody thinks we are. We like to laugh too so we’re just going to have a little bit of Trump humor.”
And Trump’s supporters do have something to smile about — as recent reports have shown that among presidential hopefuls in next year’s election, the incumbent has raised the most funds in the historically liberal state of California.
The Center for Responsive California has tallied that Trump has raised more than $200 million through the end of June, leading individual democratic hopefuls by tens of millions of dollars.
“It may not show it in the polls but who knows it might in 2020. When you’re a capitalist and a business person, which a lot of people are her gin California, you’re not going to support socialism. I think they’re just worried about that kind of message so they’re not as committed to the democrat branding as compared to what President Trump is offering.”
As Gunther and fellow Republicans continue to rally behind Trump, the Democratic field narrowed to 16 over the weekend, with Beto O’Rourke dropping out of the race.
And with the presidential election now a year away, the countdown is on to see which party gets the last laugh in this election cycle.
