BOSSIER, LOUISIANA — In a campaign rally in Louisiana on Thursday, President Donald Trump appealed to voters to replace the last Democratic governor in the south with a Republican, just one day before a run-off election between Republican challenger Eddie Rispone against Democratic governor John Bel Edwards.
A recent poll shows Rispone at 45.5% and Edwards at 45% — in a statistical tie.
Trump’s popularity in Louisiana may be key to the runoff elections. A recent statewide poll conducted by Cygnal showed that 51% of likely general election voters in Louisiana favor Trump.
The Pelican state is home to more than 7,700 Filipinos who share a similar opinion. Some of those who attended this Filipino gala said they support the president all the way to 2020.
Opinion polls predict a tight race in Louisiana, with a slight lead for the democratic governor — the result of the runoff could make or break Trump’s 2020 re-election bid, according to some political experts.
