Trump investigates former Obama national security adviser

President Donald Trump has accused former President Obama’s national security adviser, Susan Rice, of breaking the law.

In a New York Times interview, Trump, who declined to provide evidence, claimed that Rice sought and unmasked the names of Trump associates mentioned in intercepted classified intelligence communications.

When the Times asked the President on whether Rice had committed a crime, Trump said, “Yes, I think.”

He also said that the Susan Rice thing is “a massive story. I think it’s a massive, massive story. All over the world…”

But in a recent interview on MSNBC, Rice dismissed Trump’s unsubstantiated claims.

“The allegation is that somehow the Obama administration officials utilize intelligence for political purposes, that’s absolutely false,” said Rice. “I was the national security adviser, my job is to protect the american people,

Political commentator professor Robert Reich says Riice did not break the law, and that she is just doing her job as national security adviser to then President Obama.

“As national security adviser you get a lot of reports from the National Security Agency and from the CIA, and from the FBI. What you do is you determine what’s gonna be most helpful to the president to know, and the president, everyday, gets a briefing,” said Reich. “And the national security adviser makes a decision as to whether names of actual individuals need to be included, unmasked… as it goes to the President, or whether they can stay masked.”

Reich said that’s exactly what Rice did – she decided that unmasking the names of Trump advisers or associates was a national security concern.

“She decided that those name of Trump advisers was important that President Obama see them… and obviously it was important, so he could make a decision on what he was going to tell Trump.”

On the condition of anonymity, a former national security official told the NYT that “the process of “unmasking” Americans whose names are redacted in intelligence reports, is not the same thing as leaking them publicly.

The NYT also said that Trump declined to say whether he had reviewed intelligence reports that would bolster his claim about Rice.

Instead, Trump said he would explain himself “at the right time.”

The question now is, will there ever be a right time?
