Trump fires FBI Director James Comey; Filipinos react

President Donald Trump’s well known catch phrase ignited a political firestorm on Tuesday.

The President fired FBI Director James Comey, whose agency has been leading an investigation into Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign’s alleged collusion with Russia, to influence the outcome of the election.

Filipino voters in Jersey City, New Jersey have mixed reactions on the president’s unpresidented move.

“Dahil nakita niya na hindi, maraming kapalpakan kung baga na nakikita na palpak so kailangan na niyang palitan,” said Primitivo Dijamco.

“Talagang diktador siya eh, he is showing his true colors,” said Elmer Cordero. “Hindi niya dapat ginawa dahil the investigation is on going, ang rason naman na binigay niya hindin naman talaga na dapat talaga no sabi niya wala daw imbestigasyon , meron namang imbestigsyon…”

Trump’s biggest reason for sacking the FBI chief is Comey’s failed handling of then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s email scandal.

Some wonder if President Trump’s move lends credence to Clinton’s last statement that she could have won the election if not for Comey’s intervention.

“I was on the way to winning, until a combination of Jim Comey’s letter on October 28th, and Russian Wikileaks raised doubts in the minds of people who were inclined to vote for me but got scared off,” Clinton said at the Women for Women International. “And the evidence for that intervening event is, I think compelling, persuasive.”

14 US intelligence agencies concluded in January that Russian President Vladimir Putin had ordered to disrupt and interfere in the 2016 US presidential election, with the aim of helping then-candidate Trump.

On Tuesday, CNN reported that federal prosecutors had issued grand jury subpoenas to former Trump national security adviser Micheal Flynn – seeking business records as part of its inquiry into the Russian meddling in the US election.

Cordero, a Trump critic, says while Comey made some mistakes in handling the Clinton email probe — the timing of Comey’s firing is troublesome.

“That we have a president who is acting like a dictator, he’s a President who doesn’t mind what the majority of the people thinks  dapat talaga alisin na,” he says.

The White House has denied allegations that the move was politically motivated.
