ORLANDO, FL – Three Filipino would-be astronauts began training at the Axe Apollo Space Camp in Orlando, Fla.

Filipino astronaut hopefuls Evan Rey Datuin, Ramil Santos and Chino Roque underwent rigorous astronaut training at Nasa Kennedy Space Center. Only one of them will win a free trip to the edge of space and back.

Twenty-two year old Ramil Santos, an IT engineer underwent air space combat training, while Evan Datuin underwent high G-force training in a centrifuge machine that would reproduce the pressures the human body experiences when a space aircraft blasts off. Meanwhile, Chino Roque underwent both air combat training and an assault course.

At the end of Space Camp, 22 lucky winners out of more than 100 hopefuls from 60 countries will receive tickets to fly into space aboard an X-Cor Aerospace Lynx aircraft in 2014.

For $95,000 per ticket, Space Expedition Corporation’s reusable shuttle is expected to start flying customers to space in 2015.
