TORONTO, CANADA — Local police have started an investigation into complaints filed against Filipino-owned remittance company Mabini Express, after its sudden closure last month.
In a statement, the York regional police department says it has received 35 complaints of kababayans who have lost money after using the remittance company.
Mabini Express had been operating for more than 25 years, when customers were suddenly greeted by a closed office with a printed sign that said they were no longer open for business, due to circumstances beyond control in mid-February.
Calls to the company are being directed to a voicemail with the same message, and a thank you for customers’ support over the years.
York police are calling on other complainants to come forward.
