REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Police in Washington’s Kitsap County arrested a teenage suspect in the murder and rape of 6-year-old Fil-Am Jenise Wright whose body was found on Thursday, four days after her parents reported her missing.

At a press conference Saturday afternoon, authorities said the 17-year-old male suspect lived in the same trailer home park where Jenise lived.

Authorities identified the teen suspect by using DNA samples taken earlier in the week from dozens of residents around Steele Creek Mobile Home Park.

While police did not release the boy’s name, a Balitang America source says he is a senior at Olympic High School in the town of Bremerton who played on the football and wrestling teams. The source described the suspect as “shy”.

A Kitsap County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said Sunday the boy faces charges that include second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and first-degree rape of a child.

Jenise was described as Caucasian, Native American, and Filipino. She was last seen on Saturday Aug. 2 but her parents waited until the night of Sunday Aug. 3 to report her missing. That’s because they say they let her walk through the neighborhood without supervision.

More than 100 agents from 15 agencies, including the FBI, spent four days searching the area for the girl. An FBI team using search dogs found Jenise’s body late Thursday near the child’s home.
