A shocking twist in the probe into the fatal shooting over two weeks ago of a Filipino man on a Bay Area highway.
According to the Monterey County district attorney’s office, the suspect, Kevin Alaniz, was hiding in the Big Sur wilderness when he began to shoot at hikers on the trail over the weekend.
California state park rangers confronted Alaniz and fatally shot him.
The California Highway Patrol has been searching for Alaniz since he was named a suspect in the June 17th fatal shooting of Filipino American Matthew Rios along highway 680 near Milpitas.
According to Rios’ mother, Madonna Simmons, Kevin Alaniz was her fiance’s son.
Speaking to local media, Simmons says she will meet with investigators this week before allowing herself to believe her son’s killer was her part of her own family.
