Struggling Pinoys ask Obama to fulfill promise to help them

SAN FRANCISCO – When Evelyn Ramos and Lydia Capili moved to America a few years ago, they dreamed of a better life.

“We expected that before we moved here. But that’s not the case,” she said.

Ramos, who used to be a real estate agent in the Philippines, could only find work as a caregiver in America. She uses most of her $1,800 a month salary to support her grandchildren.

Lydia Capili only earns $1,200 a month as a caregiver. She also sends more of her income to her family in the Philippines.

She has to live in a room in a garage to be able to afford living in San Francisco. She reasoned, “I make sacrifices here so I can do more for my family back home.”

These Filipino caregivers are just among an estimated 46.5 million people in America who are considered poor. President Barack Obama is now making a plea for bipartisan work to combat poverty and declare 2014 as a “Year of Action”.

“We’ve got to make sure this recovery, which is real, leaves nobody behind and that’s going to be my focus throughout the year,” the President said.

Among President Obama’s proposals to combat poverty is to target 20 of the hardest-hit towns in the country and provide them with more funding from the government. In those areas, President Obama proposed to offer tax breaks for companies that set up businesses or hire workers there.

But these Filipino caregivers remind President Obama that there are also struggling people living in rich cities like San Francisco. They said he should try to bridge the gap between rich and poor all over America.

“This is his second term. Something needs to happen,” Capili pointed out.

President Obama said he intends to make good on his promise to give poor Americans a shot at economic success. He plans to talk more about his goals during his State of the Union address on January 28.

Make China and Korea pay the same tariff rates
Cancel all temporary work visas like H1b until the real U6 unemployment rates are below 8. Millions of Americans are unemployed or underemployed

give tax incentives to companies to manufacture in the US
    buy Made in America

Obama should think of Americans first. Everything he has done are failures

@amfil … Haven’t you learned yet? The President doesn’t and can’t create jobs, only corporations can. Corporations are making record profits. Instead of hiring people they are keeping the profits. Those CEO(s) are getting millions of dollars in bonuses while their employees are under paid. Don’t blame it on the President. I don’t care who the President is they don’t create jobs and that is a fact.

On 1965″War on Poverty” was started by Pres LBJonhson a progressive Democrat, which was the passing of Welfare law. Before 1965, 82% of African-American lives with their Mom and Dad.Family ties declined, in formed of hand outs, the government became the Mom and Dad, today 69% of the African-American are single parents. They are slowly eradicated by the progressives yet..? Today it is “Combat on Poverty” by Pres Obama another progressive Democrat, passed the healthcare law Obamacare.Insurance premium is 3X higher ,it kills the middle class, and expect rampant free abortions. In my opinion aborted babies will be replace by the illegals, so more amnesty to come,.that is the reason why they don’t want close the border…

@JT …. You are wrong on all counts. In 1965 America was a segregated society. Are you aware of what it is to live in a segregated society? Blacks had no other choice but to live near home in with their parents. There are more Whites on welfare than there are Blacks. It is closer to 40% are single parents. Your so called “Obamacare” maybe the premiums are high but you get more. No longer can the HMO(s) & PPO(s) down you because you use to much money or you or your family member gets sick. Do you remember when they were doing that? Do you remember when they were raising your premiums just to raise them? Of course you don’t! I bet you don’t even remember that Blue Cross in California was going to raise their rates 38.9% just to raise them. That was way before the “Affordable Health Care Act” was even thought of. I bet you don’t remember when Trickle down economics didn’t work. All that happened was the rich got richer, the poor got poorer and the Middle class supported both; that was under a conservative President (R. Reagan).

Do you have a solution on how to help the poor? Or hope to keep greedy Corporate America from taking jobs overseas? I bet you don’t. It’s easier to blame someone than propose a solution. Just ask the Republican party.
