LOS ANGELES – The work of Filipino fashion designers made it to the Oscars red carpet Sunday, receiving rave reviews from fashion watchers from all over the globe. Actress Gloria Reuben of “Lincoln” earned raves for her purple gown, made by Hollywood-based Filipino designer Oliver Tolentino.
Reuben said, “(My gown) is so amazing and gorgeous. Oliver is so nice, so sweet and funny.”
It’s been a bountiful awards season for the Filipino designer. His creations for Hollywood stars have been gaining attention.
Gabrielle Union, Rachel Leigh Cook and Blake Jenner of “Glee” wore Tolentino creations at different award ceremonies. People magazine featured the gown he made for Maria Menounos for the Emmy Awards.
Tolentino said, “It’s tough to get a star to wear your creation. So I’m happy and proud that I’ve reached this level. When they see an ‘Oliver Tolentino’ gown, they know that it enhances the beauty of the one wearing it.”
Meantime, at an Oscars after party, pop star Britney Spears wore a gown made by another talented Filipino designer, Michael Cinco.
