South of Market families receive free turkeys for Thanksgiving

SAN FRANCISCO — These are just a few of the hundreds of turkeys San Francisco Mayor London Breed gave out to the Filipino-American community of the South of Market neighborhood.

The turkeys were provided by Whole Foods, and each family received one.

The turkey giveaway was held at the United Playaz headquarters — which is a youth anti-violence center run by Fil-Am Rudy Corpuz, who echoed the mayor’s sentiments.

The turkey giveaway continued into the evening, when former and current Golden State Warriors stars met with some of the youth of San Francisco.

NBA champions Kevin Durant and Matt Barnes, along with Baron Davis, passed out turkeys with Mayor Breed and other community leaders.

The turkey giveaway was first started ten years ago with Matt Barnes giving out backpacks to children of the community.
