LAS VEGAS — Last month, the city was rocked by a domestic violence incident turned deadly as a 34-year-old Filipina mother was killed by her ex-husband
Karen Gotidoc Lopez, a 34-year-old mother, was shot in the chest by her ex-husband Fernando Lopez during an altercation in the east side neighborhood of Las Vegas on April 26.
Fernando then turned the gun on himself after shooting his ex-wife.
The family of Karen says that she was no stranger to domestic abuse as she filed many police reports during her rocky marriage with Fernando.
Besides, they have the son they shared custody.”
The family is grateful for the help and assistance of the Philippine government as well as friends who donated funds for Karen’s remains to be flown to her hometown.
Karen was married to Fernando for 3 years but they divorced last year.
They have a four-year-old son who is now in the custody of Lopez’ family.
Karen was described as a hard worker while she was part of the housekeeping department of one of the MGM properties. She’s also been praised as a good provider to her family.
“Karen she will do anything for you, she is a hero, for me she is a hero, hero of her family,” said her co-worker.
Karen Gotidoc Lopez is resting in peace as her body was soon flown home to Tarlac City, Philippines.
