Six presidential candidates square off in debate before the Iowa caucuses

And then there were six.

With the qualifications to make it to the Democratic debate stage set even higher, only Sen. Bernie Sanders, former vice president Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and businessman Tom Steyer made the cut

CNN and the Des Moines Register hosted the debate in a crucial moment of the race where surveys have shown the top four candidates are in a virtual tie in Iowa, where the first primary votes will be cast in less than three weeks.

The candidates sparred over issues ranging from climate change, the U.S. wars in the Middle East, and the effects of an impeachment trial.
