QUEENS, NY — It’s not every day you see a mega star from the Philippines in New York City.
But on Saturday afternoon, that’s the kind of surprise these patrons got here at Tito Rad’s Grill in Queens, NY.
Sharon Cuneta is in town for her concert scheduled on July 8th at Queens College.
One who feels most excited being in the Big Apple is fourteen year old, Voice Kids runner-up Antonetthe Tismo, who is with her dad Antonio.
“Ni sa panaginip yata di pumasok sa isip namin. Kaya talagang sobrang salamat po kami sa Diyos, kay Coach Sharon, kina ma’am Sandra, kina ma’am Nancy po. Kaya talagang kung lliteral na pasasalamat ay di sapat. Kay po talagang sobrang bless po kami,” Tismo said.
Tismo was with Team Sharon during last year’s The Voice Kids competition. The former kalamay vendor from Paranaque, who used to live under a bridge, might not have won the title, but admits she still feels lucky .
Her coach believes it is more than just luck.
“Kasi parang humble beginnings, yet look where talent can get you and where God can put you,” said Cuneta. “Kasi ang daming magaling sa Pilipinas pero sya yun, she wasn’t even the grand champ pero sya yung nandito diba. I’m very proud of her.”
Meanwhile, The Voice Teens competition continues, and Coach Sharon says she is not missing a beat despite being thousands of miles away.
“My kids are being taken care of though. I haven’t stopped coaching. My producers are in touch with me. I keep tabs on my teens, my kids… among these songs, this is the one I’d like him to sing, she will sing this and that. It’s exciting. It’s been very busy.”
While the mega star entertains many Pinoys here on Saturday, her nine contestants battle it out to win the last three spots during the knock out round in this season’s The Voice Teens competition airing on ABS-CBN.
