VANCOUVER — There’s a new place for Filipino street eats, with the good ol’ pandesal on spotlight. There’s a new food truck in town — and they’re shamelessly Filipino.
“We wanted something cheeky… we wanted to create this fun and silly brand,” said Matt Brennan and Corvette Romero, co-owners of Shameless Buns. “Loud and proudly Fil…that’s why it’s shamelessly Filipino.”
Longtime couple Corvette Romero and Matt Brennan have always wanted to start a food business.
Romero has shared her passion for home cooked Filipino cuisine with Brennan ever since — but their inspiration came one morning after a night of drinking.
“It came from a hangover, made longganisa sandwich with pandesal, with egg catsup and mayo, it was great… we really wanted to take fil food, elevate it and make it accessible to non-Filipinos.”
Aside from their longganisa and egg pandesal called the little sausage, Shameless Buns also serves spam fries, chicken adobo fries, and twists to other Filipino favorites.
“Filipino food hasn’t really broken out — we really wanted to pick people’s curiosity and interest and go, what’s Filipino food, and get them to try a little bit of what Filipino flavors are about.”
With long lines waiting for them at various summer festivals, the barely two-month-old food truck is off to a great start.
