REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – San Francisco City Hall is now revising its policy on romantic relationships after an affair was revealed last week between a San Francisco Supervisor and his Filipina legislative aide.

Officials in the city’s human resources department say the new policy will require elected officials to report romantic relationships with their subordinates to a third party.

The rule would then require the subordinate to be reassigned to a new manager.

Last week, San Francisco supervisor, and former mayoral candidate, John Avalos publically apologized for having an affair with his top office aide — Filipina Racquel Redondiez.

City Hall records show that Redondiez went on unpaid leave in May.

Avalos, who represents the Exelsior district — the area with the highest number of Filipinos in San Francisco — separated from his wife this year. They have two children.

Balitang America has tried to reach out to Redondiez and Avalos for comment. They have yet to respond.

City Hall’s new policy must first be approved by labor unions before it goes into effect.
