Sen. Bob Menendez courts Asian American voters in New Jersey
JERSEY CITY, NJ — Elected Filipino American New Jersey officials were on stage on Sunday evening with the state’s political heavy hitters.
“We need someone who fought for WWII veterans in their 80’s and 90’s, too feeble to fight for themselves and that guy is Senator Menendez, who you will elect on Nov 6th.”
Incumbent Democratic senior senator Bob Menendez was out courting Asian American votes. He is running against Republican Bob Hugin in a surprisingly close race, according to analysts, considering the number of registered Democrats in New Jersey.
He outpaced Republicans by more than 100,000 between 2016 primaries to now.
A recent APIAVote survey showed that Filipino Americans outside of California would likely vote for a Republican senator than a Democrat.
Menendez is hoping his stand on issues important to Filipinos would guarantee their votes his way.
