US Secretary of State John Kerry cancelled a scheduled trip to the Philippines due to threats posed by Tropical Storm Nari.

Weather forecasters say that Nari could strike the Northern Philippines as early as Friday bringing heavy rains and strong winds.

Manila was suppose to be Kerry’s last stop after visiting Indonesia, Brunei, and Malasia, where he planned to meet with Philippine officials on Friday and Saturday.

Philippine Foreign Secretary Albert Del Rosario said that Kerry would try to make the trip up in a month or so and reaffirmed the “unbreskable” ties between the US and Philippines.

Kerry has been filling in for President Barack Obama who had to cancel his Asia tour because of the government shutdown.
