SAN DIEGO, Calif. – A Filipino man accused of a Christmas triple murder entered a not guilty plea Wednesday in a San Diego court.

Carlo Mercado, 29, had reportedly suffered injuries from overdosing on Tylenol as he was booked into jail over the weekend.

Shortly after the two shooting deaths, Gianni Belvedere, the brother of Salvatore and fiance of Ilona, went missing, only for his dead body to be found in a car trunk a hundred miles away in mid-Janurary.

Police say they have evidence that links Mercado, who has faced a gun possession charge in the past, but declined to give further detail.

Mercado’s family has also released a statement through their lawyers, saying that they are sorry for any pain the Flint and Belvedere families have suffered and are suffering.

The family also adds that they have had limited contact with Carlo and have not been made aware of any evidence against him.

Mercado who is being held without bail is due back in court on July tenth.
