SAN FRANCISCO — With the wide, open space and fame as a tourist destination — Union Square in downtown San Francisco has been the ideal venue for the annual Kalayaan SF festival.
Kalayaan SF draws in thousands of visitors each year who get to experience food, a marketplace, and live entertainment.
And speaking of entertainment — the artists during this year’s TFC Hour featured kapamilya star Sam Milby and Pinay rapper Ruby Ibarra.
According to the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco along with the organizers of Kalayaan SF, bringing these two artists to co-headline the event was not accidental.
“We’re implementing Einstein’s theory of the law of relativity by shaking time and space by having two different generations of Filipinos from across the Pacific Ocean. Now that barrier is no longer a barrier. We’re putting everybody closer and united.”
Kalayaan SF also featured the three Filipino-American heroes honored by the Philippine consulate in San Francisco:
11-year-old Clark Kent Apuada, who broke Michael Phelps 23-year swimming record, KPIX CBS anchor woman and philanthropist Veronica de la Cruz, and motivational speaker and the world’s first licensed armless pilot Jessica Cox.
