NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — The annual Rutgers Association of Philippine Students’ (RAPS) Halo-Halloween is the club’s biggest event of the fall semester at the largest institution of higher education in New Jersey.
Students get to showcase their talents in a variety show and educate others about Philippine culture, from dancing the tinikling to demonstrating the Filipino martial arts kali-escrima.
“Bringing everyone together really have that family environment, as Filipinos we like to take care of each other and be welcoming to each other,” said President Josh de Castro.
The annual event also celebrates Halloween with fun and creative costumes.
For these college students, Halo-Haloween is about finding a community — where they could easily fit in.
