Rocky Gathercole brings daring fashion designs to Texas for charity

AUSTIN, TX — JLo, Britney Spears, Beyoncè, and Lady Gaga are just a few of the icons for whom avant-garde Pinoy fashion designer Rocky Gathercole has created designs for.

On June 25, Rocky brought those daring designs to Austin, Texas for a benefit show.

“I brought 25 pieces of looks and designs, and my favorite and special to me is the Finale… the one that worn by Miss Canada. It’s close to my heart and a controversial dress,” he said.

Proceeds from this event will go to the Faith Love Care Children Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to support, assist and help the less fortunate children around the globe.

Gathercole partnered with FLC’s Fil-Am founder, Gigi Hobson, to organize the show for the second time in two years. She says Rocky is a perfect partner, because of how he grew up in Pasay City, Philippines.

“He was a street child. He didn’t know where he was going to spend the night. He didn’t know where he was going to eat the next day, and this opportunity came to him, so it is his way of giving back,” said Hobson.

FLC partners with local lifestyle businesses to complement the event, which included special guest models for the evening — Miss Universe Canada 2016 and Miss Universe Guatemala 2016.

“I feel so happy and so proud because there are people that really are about other poor people. I’m so happy for that,” said Virginia Argueta, Miss Universe Guatemala. “And it’s an amazing event, and this is so important to me.”

Despite his success in the fashion world, Rocky remains grounded, and is very passionate about giving back to the children of the Philippines who are being helped by FLC.

“Anything that will help the kids back home, I will do it for them. To anyone who asked me to do a charity show for children; I’ll do it. Just like what I’m doing back in the Philippines.”

FLC partners with local organizations in Manilla to support weekly feedings to children living in extreme poverty. Every Saturday morning in Tondo, 50 to 100 children are provided hot meals.

ABS-CBN will feature the true to life story of Rocky Gathercole at MMK “Maala-ala Mo Kaya” this Saturday.
