Republicans vow to undo Obama’s planned immigration orders

By Paul Henson

With President Obama’s announcement of his orders to fix America’s broken immigration system, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says it’s not a political victory, but a victory for millions of undocumented immigrants in America.

“It is not about Democrats versus Republicans, or Republicans versus the president. It is about families all across America worrying everyday about being torn apart,” said Sen. Harry Reid. “It is about saying to good, law abiding people, ‘you won’t have to spend another holiday season wondering if this will be your last together.’ It is about telling mothers and fathers, sons and daughters they are no longer relegated to the shadows in American society.”

But those words fell on deaf ears for top Senate Republican Mitch McConnell, who vows that Congress will undo Obama’s orders under the new Senate leadership.

“Let’s make no mistake,” said McConnell, “When the newly elected representatives of the people take their seats, they will act.”

Conservator Senator Tom Coburn warns of violence in reaction to Obama’s executive action.

“The country’s going to go nuts, because they’re going to see it as a move outside the authority of the president, and it’s going to be a very serious situation,” said Cobum. “You’re going to see – hopefully not – but you could see instances of anarchy. … You could see violence.”

There are some 300,000 undocumented Filipinos in the United States.

Retired Filipino journalist and publisher George Nervez says undocumented kababayans have everything to gain from Obama’s action, despite whatever threats from Republicans.

“Everybody should be thrilled, especially the Filipino immigrant community,” said Nervez. “Finally, may lunas na dahil nasa front burner again.”

But retired San Francisco Clerk of Court Rene Pascual is concerned about the continuity of Obama’s immigration orders after he steps down from office.

“Although this is a welcome development, this is just an executive order,” said Pascqual. “What happens under the next president is a Republican or a Republican-controlled Congress.

DO YOU SUPPORT REPUBLICANS IN THEIR EFFORTS TO UNDO PRESIDENT OBAMA'S EXECUTIVE ORDERS ON IMMIGRATION?
