Reports show possible U.S. involvement in Maguindanao clash

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Reports by the Manila Standard reveal that a police general says it was the U.S. government who provided President Bengino “Noynoy” Aquino intel on terror suspect Marwan.

Marwan was said to be on “Washington’s list of priority terrorists” and this mission, called Operation Wolverine, had U.S. backing, involvement and participation.

Filipino American community leader Rodel Rodis says he is not surprised by these reports.

“The U.S. has been involved in Mindanao, has had a number of operations in that area so I would be surprised if the U.S. was not coordinating,” said Rodis.

The Philippine government has yet to confirm this.

Elite police forces were on their way to arrest Marwan and another terrorist when they were attacked by rebel groups.

Forty-four police commandos died.

“There’s a question being raised whether the $5 million bounty played a hand that certain people were ambitious to get this in order to get the reward and so therefore, they did not take the necessary precautions,” said Rodis.

President Aquino says the bloody encounter should not stop government efforts to forge a lasting peace deal with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front or MILF, one of the groups that attacked the Philippine troops.

Rodis says the Bangsomoro basic law needs to be passed this year to prevent any more conflict in the area.

But he says that may be a challenge.

“There’s a lot of anger in the country,” said Rodis. “People want blood.”

Fellow community leader Ted Laguatan says besides sealing peace agreements with rebel groups in Mindanao the Philippine government needs to hold the murderers accountable.

“We should focus on who caused the bloodshed,” said Laguatan. “Who did it? Wasn’t it MILF and the BIFF – Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters? They’re the ones who did the massacre!”

“The MILF has a duty to inform the government if that happened,” said Laguatan. “They have a ceasefire agreement. Instead of that, they attacked.”

Meantime there are now calls for a congressional inquiry to verify the reported involvement of American agents in the botched operation.

Philippine lawmakers pushing for this congressional inquiry say they are concerned that the military deals between the Philippines and the U.S. are putting lives of Filipino troops in peril, and that the Philippines could become targets of the enemies of America.

44 elite cops killed vs 8 MILF killed….Autonomous gov’t will become active after the ceasefire agreement end on 2016. After 2016, Islamic either Iran or Saudis can supply the autonomous gov’t with aircraft, missles, gun boats and tanks. Then they will ask to established their own “Republic of Mindanao”. Why did our gov’t gave autonomy to the Moslem. Just like, kicking the American from Clark and Subic, soon we will lose most of the small Island to the Chinese, now we give autonomy to the Moslem, someday we will lose the whole of Mindanao. We nearly recover Sabah, but planned of invasion leak in the media. So we lose Sabah forever. Fault and mistakes were made by one political family.wow ..no foresight….

What’s more destructive to human vitality than a relentless world-wide Islamic terrorist.

Although a single irresponsible person could easily blame anyone for the outcome in Maguindanao, every intel requires further and credible confirmation. For example, PNP or AFP units in the area should (expected to have expertise) have some sort of intel supporting what was shared by the U.S.

In a government that lacks structure where President Benigno Aquino III and Secretary Mar Roxas both disclaimed responsibility, would that be appropriate to throw in the names of suspended and acting PNP chief to be the responsible person? So now political parties of Aquino are trying to exonerate from being the responsible person.

Understand that Rodel Rodis and Ted Laguatan are based in the bay area. Is is easy for these two community leader to speculate while they cannot let go of their rice bowl. It was covered by TV patrol that while PNPSAF were backing out, BIFF ambushed them because of being in close proximity to their homes.

Today, there is MILF (used to be MNLF), Abu Sayyaf, Jemaa Islamiyah, BIFF, etc. Tomorrow, another group emerge and another one, etc. In the past before the Aquino, Ramos, Estrada, Macapagal, Aquino again, terrorist group was having a hard time penetrating Maguindanao.
