MANILA – House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. called for a ceasefire on political bickering to allow the nation to focus on helping communities hit by the powerful earthquake in the Visayas.
Belmonte said that the nation needs a respite from political bickering so that the country can get together and focus on helping victims of the powerful earthquake that hit the Visayas.
He said the recent calamity proves that a presidential lump sum fund is needed so that the President can help areas affected by calamities which are not expected and cannot be predicted.
He said that although House members can no longer help with their Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), the House plans to fund additional projects in the Visayas and Zamboanga which can be discussed during the bicameral conference of the budget.
Belmonte called on Filipinos to exercise the resiliency and bayanihan the Philippines is known for, and purposely do their share as individuals and members of organizations to help those who have fallen victims of the tragedy.
