Celebrities, activists lead alternative State of the Union address

NEW YORK — On the night before President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address before the US Congress, Hollywood celebrities and anti-Trump activists came together to show their support for what the resistance movement calls the “People’s State of the Union address.”

“Our American democracy is under attack, and we Americans need to not only cherish it and protect it but to fight for it!” said Cynthia Nixon.

Held at the historic town hall theater in Manhattan, the alternative State of the Union address called for equal human rights for people of color, immigrants, and the LGBTQ community.
