REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – President Benigno Aquino III is now considering the transfer of the alleged mastermind behind the Php10 billion pork barrel scam, Janet Lim Napoles, from a police camp in Laguna province to a regular jail.
It costs Philippine taxpayers more than $3,000 per month to hold Napoles in the police camp.
In the past, Napoles had expressed that she fears for her life and needs to be isolated from other inmates.
But Aquino says there seems to be no more threat to her life, as she has not implicated anybody in the scam just yet.
Napoles has never admitted to the crime, therefore, she cannot turn state witness and can no longer get government protection.
But Napoles must stay alive if she is to face plunder charges against her, along with implicated Senators Jinggoy Estrada, Juan Ponce Enrile, and Bong Revilla.
