MANILA – President Benigno Aquino III said China has deployed ships that can be used to reclaim land in two more disputed reefs in the Spratlys.

In a news briefing on Thursday, President Aquino said the vessels spotted around Gavin and Calderon Reefs were similar to the ones used to transport gravel and sand at Mabini Reef.

He added that the ships may be used for land reclamation.

In its arbitration case filed against China before a United Nations-backed tribunal, the Philippines claims that these reefs are inside the Philippines’ 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone.

China has refused to answer that case, but Aquino is unperturbed.

“If they rule in our favor na tama ‘yung ating mga claims, then magkakaliwanagan: Ano ba talaga ang karapatan-ulitin ko lang, sorry kung sirang plaka na ang tunog ko, ano-karapatan ng bawat isang estado at ano ang mga tungkulin? So itong undisputed or indisputable fact ay gagawin na nga natin, ano ba talaga ang fact,” President Aquino said.
