REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The Big Bang? Evolution? Pope Francis says yes, those were the works of God.
During a recent address at the Vatican about the evolving concepts of nature, Pope Francis said the theories of evolution and the Big Bang are real, and God did not wave a “magic wand” to create the universe.
It’s a departure from the typical Christian stance as “God the creator.”
But U.S. Catholic teaching has accepted evolution as part of God’s creation process for over a half century.
Pope Francis’ remarks re-align the church’s ideas to the notion that there is no opposition between evolution and Catholic doctrine.
