New developments on a scandal that’s rocking the White House — as Democrats move ahead with their impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump’s conduct in office.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo confirmed that he was on the July 25th phone call between Trump and Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskiy that triggered the impeachment inquiry, explaining that it was a legitimate conversation that focused on U.S. policy priorities.
Pompeo’s admission came after it was reported in the media that he had been listening in the phone conversation — where Trump asked his Ukranian counterpart to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son. Biden is the leading Democratic presidential candidate that could challenge Trump in 2020.
Pompeo has not specified his involvement in the call.
Pompeo had previously pushed back on House Democrats’ efforts to take depositions from state department officials.
