WASHINGTON (CNN) – The worst Congress ever.
That’s the verdict from two-thirds of Americans about the track record of the 113th Congress, according to a new national poll. And a CNN/ORC International poll released Thursday also indicates that nearly three-quarters of the public say that this has been a “do-nothing” Congress.
Two-thirds of those questioned said the current Congress is the worst in their lifetime, with 28% disagreeing.
“That sentiment exists among all demographic and political subgroups. Men, women, rich, poor, young, old – all think this year’s Congress has been the worst they can remember,” CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said. “Older Americans – who have lived through more congresses – hold more negative views of the 113th Congress than younger Americans. Republicans, Democrats and independents also agree that this has been the worst session of Congress in their lifetimes.”
According to the survey, 73% say that this Congress has so far done nothing to address the country’s problems, with one in four disagreeing.
Even though it did pass a budget agreement, fewer than 60 bills have been signed into law during the first year of the two-year long 113th Congress, according to CNN analysis and by other news organizations as well. Assuming lawmakers don’t pick up the pace next year, and that’s a safe bet as 2014 is an election year, this will become the least productive Congress in at least the last four decades.
The poll also indicates there’s little optimism for the future.
“Negative attitudes extend to both sides of the aisle: 52% believe that the policies of the Democratic leaders in Congress would move the country in the wrong direction; 54% say the same about the policies of congressional Republicans,” Holland said.
And 54% say the same thing about President Barack Obama’s policies
The poll was conducted for CNN by ORC International on December 16-19, with 1,035 adults nationwide questioned by telephone. The survey’s overall sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.

Poor leadership of Obama. With his lies nobody trusts him.
I don’t trust CNN poll survey, CNN had been a Democrat party water carrier since time and memorial. This time, most of the bill pased by Republican majority controlled congress is being block by Democrat controlled Senate(Harry Reed), that is the reason why the lower House is a “do nothing Congress”. During the first term of Obama it was a Democrat party controlled(Lower and upper house) Congress and Senate, that is why Obamacare became the law of the land. Remember “sign the bill now and find out what in it….by Nancy Polluci a Democrat switik..
You all can’t do anything, we are stuck with Obama for three more years. So let him finish out the three more years he has. What we need to do is start to build-up the Republicans, to have a president in three years, when we had a Republican for president, we had little problems ? Give the Republicans what they want and see what happens !
@ HELLO …. 1st of all Under a Democratic President we had the largest surplus in U.S. history. 2nd, under a Republican President we were in 2 wars; one of which was a war of choice. Neither one was paid for and now the bill is due. 3rd, The recession started under a Republican President.
@ Juan, You have a short memory. Remember when th Republicans got on tv and said we’re going to make sure he is a one term President? I bet you don’t. Every time President Obama proposed something, they always said no or blocked it. The Republicans never had a solution, they just said no to everything. Do you remember when the health care insurance providers were dropping a person for no reason at all? How about if you (Lord forbid) had a child with a health condition, you couldn’t get health insurance for that child? or even if you used to much money? They would also drop you even though you paid your health care insurance plan for years. NOW they can’t do that. Isn’t that a good thing?
@ amfil, There are a lot of us that do trust him. He has ordered the killing of and killed more terrorist than any other President in our history. He has protected our nation. There are things he has done that haven’t agreed with. President Obama hasn’t done all bad nor has he done all good.
If all of you want your daily dose of President Obama hater ade, just watch Fox news daily.
@Wil I guess your a Obama man, look Fox is telling the people what Obama is doing is wrong, if you understand American English, you will learn something by watching Fox ! Stop following other Obama followers ? He can’t do nothing for America I wonder why ? All leaders in the past did a lot for us Americans, only Obama have a hard time to help the American people, I wonder why ? Is it because of his color or the people don’t believe in him anymore ?
You still did not address the fact when Clinton left office we had the largest surplus. By the time President Obama got in office we were in a recession. May be if you’d learn how to read English then you’d know that. Like I said before President Obama didn’t do every thing wrong and he equally didn’t do every thing right. Oh, not to mention the fact that the Republicans are on record as saying they were going to ensure was a one term President. I guess that didn’t work out. I am a realist. There are things I agree with our current President and there are things that I don’t agree with.
@Wil the only English I now is look at Obama record up to date ? A Big Zero ! But I guess your filipino and don’t understand when the old horse is dead, leave it to dead ! You can’t help him anymore! Obama took the filipinos for big ride, he only wanted your votes live and learn ? Welcome to America !
@Hello, get real! What has the Repubs done? All they said was no to everything. They didn’t have one solution. President Obama could of walked out side looked at the sky, and said that it was blue and the Repubs would say not it is not blue.
