REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Police arrested a parolee carrying a loaded weapon Wednesday in connection with the killing of 19-year-old Filipina nursing student Kimberly Estrada Chico. Police said the San Jose State University student was in Downtown San Jose celebrating with a friend early last Saturday morning, when she was hit by a stray bullet and killed while riding in the passenger seat of a car downtown.

The San Jose Police Department tied 23-year-old Johnny Lozano to the killing and charged him with the homicide after arresting him for possession of a loaded gun and violating his parole. SJPD is still determining his role in the shooting, but confirm he was at the scene of the crime. Investigators also plan to run ballistics tests on Lozano’s gun.

Chico’s death counts as San Jose’s 30th homicide of the year.
