REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – To launch one of the country’s biggest Filipino-American fiestas, the Annual Pistahan Parade and Festival held a kick-off party in San Francisco.
Pistahan will take place at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Gardens from Aug. 9 to Aug. 10.
The kick-off party at San Francisco’s City Hall also introduced this year’s Hermana Mayor, ABS-CBN’s managing director Olivia “Chinky” De Jesus.
She says she’s excited to celebrate Pistahan and TFC, both of which have served the Filipino community for 20 years.
“We look back at 20 years of partnerships,” said De Jesus. “Two decades of milestones – and what’s more important is together we can look forward to creating a difference in the community, especially in these fast changing times.”
As part of Hermana Mayor duties, De Jesus came up with a legacy project that consists of a speaker salon to engage the next-generation of Filipinos to do more for the community.
“The purpose of this salon is to come up with ideas to build a better Philippines,” said De Jesus, “And we would like to have as many second generation Filipinos – as they are the future – to come and attend the salon and share their ideas.”
