Pinoys vie for ESPY awards

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – It’s ESPY week in Los Angeles and stars of the sports world came out to celebrate the launch of the ESPN Body magazine, with cover boy football star Colin Kaepernick wearing nothing but his Filipino-Made tattoos.

The Body issue launch is the pre party for the annual ESPN ESPY awards where a few Filipinos are in the running for some of sports top honors.

Among them Raymond Martin, the wheelchair bound FilAm who won 4 gold medals in the 2012 Paralympics in London is nominated for the second year in a row for best athlete with a disability.

In the team category, three Filipinos are in the running; the Olympic Gold Medal winning US gymnastic team which included FilAm Kyla Ross, back-to-back National Basketball Association champions the Miami Heat coached by Erik Spoelstra, and World Series Champion San Francisco Giant with Tim Lincecum. Spoelstra is also nominated for coach of the year.

Win or lose the nominees are bringing home these gift bags worth as much as $25 thousand dollars and filled with nutrition and athletic related goodies.
