REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The US Labor Department said Filipinos are among hundreds of workers in Scottsdale, Ariz. who will receive a portion of over $76,000 in back wages and penalties.
US officials said the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa failed to pay overtime wages.
The resort also routinely deducted 30 minutes in the lunch breaks of their housekeepers, resulting in more than $33,000 in unpaid wages.
The resort employed a number of Filipino housekeepers who came to work under the H-2B temporary visa program.
The investigation also determined that two local applicants were denied work in favor of the Filipino housekeepers.
