Pinoy talents among nominees at MTV Video Music Awards

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Kababayans are representing well at the this year’s MTV video music awards.

“Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson, featuring Pinoy Bruno Mars, has five nominations, including a nod to Bruno Mars and Cameron Duddy for best direction.

Gab Valenciano’s “Super Selfie” videos on Youtube inspired Beyonce’s “7/11” video, which earned Valenciano a nomination as an additional choreographer.

Also nominated for best choreography are “So You Think You Can Dance” resident choreographers Nappytabs, composed of Filipino American Napoleon Dum’o and wife Tabitha. The Dum’os were nominated for Ed Sheeran’s “Don’t” video.

Urban Dance camp teachers Keone and Mari Madrid also got the MTV music video nomination for their work in “Never Catch Me” by Flying Lotus, featuring Kendrick Lamar.

The awards show will air on Aug. 30 on MTV.
