WILMINGTON, Calif. – A tragic accident at the port of Los Angeles has left a Filipino seaman dead on job.

Investigators believe the unnamed 39-year old Philippine citizen was fatally injured as the ship, Cap Posada, was unloading cargo late Wednesday night.

He worked for Hamburg Sud, which is headquartered in Germany.

A spokesperson from the port of LA said police were alerted during the incident. The body was found in a cargo vessel with blunt force trauma to the head. No other injuries were reported.

The Cap Posada had originated from Vancouver and left for New Zealand Thursday afternoon after a 10-hour delay as authorities conducted an investigation.

The port said the shipping company’s shipping agent will make the arrangements to transport the worker’s remains.

The Philippine consulate is verifying if a representative from the port or cargo company has contacted them.
