SAN FRANCISCO – The Filipino man shot by police over the weekend after he tried to rob two people of their cell phones is in stable condition in a San Francisco hospital, authorities said.

Nineteen-year old Rommel Narvaez faces attempted robbery, and assault and battery charges.

Police said Narvaez was armed with a gun that fired blanks when he tried to rob the two victims’ cell phones in San Francisco’s Marina district.

Reports say he fired the gun off a few times and struck one of the victims with it, causing a skull fracture and multiple lacerations.

When police arrived at the scene they say Narvaez brandished a gun prompting four officers to shoot, striking him three times.

Narvaez is already headed to trial in San Mateo County in December for similar robberies in Daly City.
