REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The U.S. coast guard said a search is underway for a 34-year-old Filipino national who went missing more than 1,000 miles northeast of Hilo, Hawaii.

The coast guard said the still unidentified Filipino crew member went overboard the cruise ship, Grand Princess, just past midnight on Monday.

A spokesperson for Princess Cruises of Santa Clarita, Calif. said the Filipino crew member intentionally jumped from the vessel, as confirmed by the cruise ship’s closed circuit video system.

The Grand Princess started its voyage in San Francisco and was heading to Hawaii.
